Corfu Ferry Guide: Igoumenitsa, Paxos and the Saranda Crossing

The crossings are short. The checking is not: two ports, two timetables that disagree, and a border passport check on the Albania boat.

Our Corfu ferry page lists the boats from the island to the Greek mainland, Paxos, Albania and Italy. Ferryhopper, a booking site, calls Corfu Central Port, in Corfu Town, the island's largest port and says Lefkimmi, in the south of the island, is a second port that mainly serves the Igoumenitsa route. Which port your ticket names matters more than the route name, so this article starts there.

1. Two ports, not one

On Ferryhopper's listing the Igoumenitsa crossing from Corfu has operators Kerkyra Lines and Kerkyra Seaways, while a separate Lefkimmi to Igoumenitsa listing has Sarris Lines, Makedonia IV and Lefkimmi Lines. Ionian Seaways, the operator of the Saranda boats, gives its Corfu office as Ethnikis Antistaseos 4, New Port, and tells passengers to go to the international passenger terminal. We could not open the Corfu port authority's own site, so we cannot say from an official port page where each berth is. Read the port named on your ticket.

Ionian Seaways' home page also says the company offers airport-to-port transfers. We have not seen a price or a schedule for them.

2. What Ferryhopper lists from Corfu

The table gives the shortest crossing as Ferryhopper lists it, in the direction shown. It says the figures are the shortest listed and can vary by sailing and weather. It is a booking site, not an operator, and its own page contradicts itself in places, as the notes below the table show.

Route and directionShortest crossing listedSeason and frequency listed
Corfu to Igoumenitsa1 hour 10 minutesJanuary to December, 6 to 7 days a week
Igoumenitsa to Corfu1 hour 10 minutesJanuary to December, every day
Corfu to Paxi55 minutesJanuary to December, 3 to 7 days a week
Paxi to Corfu55 minutesJanuary to December, 2 to 7 days a week
Corfu to Saranda20 minutesApril to December, 1 to 7 days a week
Saranda to Corfu20 minutesSeptember to December, every day
Corfu to Bari8 hoursApril to September, 1 to 7 days a week

Ferryhopper's FAQ gives 50 minutes to 1.5 hours for Igoumenitsa and 30 minutes to 1.5 hours for Saranda, against 1 hour 10 minutes and 20 minutes in the table. For Italy, the Corfu to Brindisi row says 6 hours 30 minutes and a season of April to April, the Brindisi to Corfu row says 5 hours 30 minutes, and the FAQ says about 7 hours. We do not choose between these. For Bari, see our Bari ferry page.

3. Igoumenitsa and Paxos: one operator's published pattern

Kerkyra Seaways says it has run the Igoumenitsa to Corfu route for more than 50 years and also serves Paxos from Igoumenitsa. Its timetable page for 1 to 31 October 2026 says its Paxos services run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. A post on the same site dated 10 August 2026 described daily Paxos sailings. Read together, they show the pattern changes with the season, so a summer timetable is not an October one. Open the operator's page for the month you travel.

4. Saranda: a short crossing with a passport check

Ionian Seaways' timetable page describes Corfu to Saranda sailings by a hydrofoil (Flying Dolphin) taking 30 to 45 minutes and by passenger or car ferry taking 55 to 70 minutes. That differs from Ferryhopper's 20 minutes. The page is divided into date blocks for 2026. In the block for 16 to 31 October 2026 it lists eight departures from Corfu each day, from 09:00 to 20:30. In the block for 11 November to 31 December 2026 it lists one a day from Corfu, at 09:00. This is a dated example, not a rule for other months.

That timetable also shows sailings in January to March and in the summer months, while Ferryhopper lists Saranda to Corfu only from September to December. The two pages disagree about the season, so check the operator's page first. The timetable carries a note in Greek that rental cars may not be taken from Corfu to Albania.

Ionian Seaways' boarding information says passengers should be at the international passenger terminal at least one hour before departure, must show the ticket to the security officer and a valid passport or ID at passport control, and pass customs control. It says boarding starts one hour before departure and closes thirty minutes before. Its useful-information page says the booking must include details such as nationality, document type, document number and expiry date. Entry rules for Albania are not covered here, because we did not read the Albanian government's pages; check them with that government before you book.

5. Tickets, luggage and special care

Ionian Seaways says online booking is possible from 90 days before travel until 24 hours before departure, and that a printed ticket lets you go straight to the terminal without visiting a ticket office. It says the ticket is in the passenger's name, is personal and is valid only for its route; the fare is fully refundable up to 7 days before departure and not refundable inside 7 days, and no-show tickets are not refundable. Treat this as the operator's policy as the page read on 29 October 2026, and check it before you book.

The same page says passengers may carry free luggage up to 25 kg and 0.25 cubic metres, and that seats are not numbered. It says passengers needing special care must notify the company's main reservation offices. We found no accessibility statement on the pages we opened, so ask before you pay. Our access questions guide lists what to ask in writing.

6. Keeping your margin

Ferryhopper's tip is to arrive at the departure port at least one hour before departure, especially in summer. Ionian Seaways asks for one hour at the terminal and closes boarding at thirty minutes. For a day from a cruise ship, work backwards from the ship's all-aboard time with the all-aboard worksheet, and read why separate tickets need a buffer. We have not checked any ship's schedule, so we cannot say that any of these crossings fits a port call.

If a sailing is cancelled, our plan B guide goes through the options. Then return to the Corfu ferry page.

Checked on 29 October 2026: Ferryhopper's Corfu ferries page; Ionian Seaways' home, timetable, booking-info and useful-information pages; Kerkyra Seaways' home, fleet and timetable pages. Not opened: the Corfu port authority site (access refused). No prices are quoted. Check every detail with the operator before you book.
