Our Bari ferry page lists the crossings that leave this Italian port for Albania and Greece. This article is about what to check before you rely on any of them. Ferryhopper, a booking site, says the New Port of Bari serves all passenger ferries and cruise ships, and that the Old Port is mainly for fishing boats, yachts and pleasure craft. The photo above shows the old harbour, not the ferry terminals.
1. Which part of the port
Ferryhopper says the New Port has five main terminals: Molo San Vito, Banchina dogana, Banchina capitaneria, Darsena di Ponente and Molo di ridosso. It does not say which operator uses which. Adria Ferries says check-in takes place inside the maritime station of the departure port, so your ticket and the operator's instructions are the place to confirm where you are going.
GNV's own Bari port page gives the port address as Varco della Vittoria, Lungomare Starita 6, and puts the ticket office at Colmata di Marisabella. In another section the same page calls Corso Antonio De Tullio the port's official address, so the page itself gives two. Check the address on your own ticket.
On the same page GNV says Bari Centrale station is about 3 km from the port, reached by taxi, city bus lines 20 and 50 or a shuttle, in about 10 to 15 minutes. It puts Karol Wojtyła International Airport about 15 km away, by taxi or shuttle bus in about 20 minutes. These are GNV's figures for its own passengers; we could not open the airport's or the port authority's pages to compare them.
2. What Ferryhopper lists from Bari
The table gives the shortest crossing as the Ferryhopper route listing states it, in the direction shown. Ferryhopper says its figures are the shortest listed and can vary by sailing and weather. It is a booking site, not an operator, so treat the table as a way to understand the scale of the trip, not as a timetable.
| Route and direction | Shortest crossing listed | Season and frequency listed | Operators listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bari to Durrës (Albania) | 8 hours | Year-round, daily | Ventouris, Adria Ferries, GNV |
| Durrës to Bari | 6 hours | Year-round, daily | Ventouris, Adria Ferries, GNV |
| Bari to Igoumenitsa (Greece) | 8 hours | Year-round, daily | Blue Star, Ventouris |
| Igoumenitsa to Bari | 9 hours 1 minute | Year-round, 6 to 7 days a week | Blue Star, Ventouris |
| Bari to Patras (Greece) | 15 hours 30 minutes | Year-round, daily | Blue Star |
| Bari to Corfu | 8 hours | April to September, 1 to 7 days a week | Blue Star, Ventouris |
| Bari to Sami (Kefalonia) | 14 hours | June to December, 6 to 7 days a week | Blue Star, Ventouris |
The same page contradicts itself on length. Its FAQ says crossings from Bari range from 6.5 to 18 hours, and gives figures such as 9.5 hours for Igoumenitsa, 17.5 hours for Patras and 9 hours for Corfu, against 8 hours, 15 hours 30 minutes and 8 hours in its route listings. For Durrës, GNV's own page says the crossing typically takes about 10 to 11 hours, with departures generally in the evening. We do not choose between these. Plan for a night at sea and read the departure and arrival times on your ticket.
Adria Ferries' own site describes a daily Bari to Durrës service, which fits the booking site's listing. We did not open Blue Star's or Ventouris's own route pages for Bari, so we cannot say from an operator page when those lines sail.
3. Croatia: the sailings are paused
Ferryhopper still lists Jadrolinija sailings from Bari to Dubrovnik and Split. Jadrolinija's own notice to passengers, read on 29 October 2026, says it will not operate any sailings on its international routes until 5 January 2027 because of a technical issue with the ferry Dalmacija, and that ticket holders will be compensated under Regulation (EU) No 1177/2010. The page shows no date of its own, so check it again before you plan around the Croatia crossing. Until it changes, do not treat Bari to Croatia as running. For a Croatian base, our Dubrovnik page shows what is listed there.
4. Check-in and the margin before sailing
Two operators publish almost the same rules. GNV says passengers, with or without a vehicle, should report for embarkation 3 hours before departure, and that check-in closes 60 minutes before departure. Adria Ferries says every passenger must check in to receive the boarding card, that check-in closes strictly one hour before the scheduled departure with nothing possible afterwards, and that arriving at least 3 hours early is advised, especially in the high summer season when traffic around the port can slow the journey. Ferryhopper's own tip is to arrive at least 1.5 hours before, which is less than either operator says. Follow the operator.
Adria Ferries adds that tickets are in a name and for one specific trip, and that a change of name or date on the day of departure can carry penalties of up to 100 percent of the ticket price in cases the company is not responsible for. GNV says its ticket can be digital or paper, and that you need a valid identity document for travel abroad, also for minors. Adria says a travel document valid for leaving the country is always required, for every passenger including babies.
Entry and border rules for Albania or Greece are not covered here. We did not read the governments' own pages, so check the rules of the country you are entering with that government before you book.
5. Assistance, luggage and waiting
Adria Ferries' page says carriers and terminal operators provide free assistance to disabled people and people with reduced mobility in ports and on board, and that you should tell the carrier your specific needs, such as accommodation, seating, services or medical equipment, when you book or buy the ticket. The page links to a port authority ordinance on carrying passengers with reduced mobility, which we did not open. GNV says its Bari port has trained staff and assistance points, and that the ticket office can help with special needs. Our access questions guide lists what to ask in writing.
GNV also lists bars and cafes, waiting areas, toilets, information points and a luggage storage facility at the port. We have not checked cabin or step-free details on any ship. For the comfort side of a long night crossing, see our luggage, cabins and toilets checklist.
6. Cautions for a cruise traveller
On Ferryhopper's figures, even one direction takes 6 hours or more, and GNV describes its Durrës departures as generally in the evening, so these are travel days rather than excursions from a cruise stop. We have not checked any ship's schedule. If you are joining a ship, read why separate tickets need a buffer and keep a full day in hand.
Disruption can come from several directions. As one dated example, Blue Star Ferries' website, read on 29 October 2026, carried a notice about a strike on 30 October 2026 and a link to changed schedules; it is an example, not a rule. Adria Ferries' page says that for a cancellation or a delay over 90 minutes, passengers can choose alternative transport or a refund under the EU regulation. Our plan B guide goes through the steps. Then return to the Bari ferry page for the routes in one place.
Checked on 29 October 2026: Jadrolinija's notice to passengers on international routes; Ferryhopper's Bari ferries page; GNV's Bari port page; Adria Ferries' home, company profile and check-in and boarding pages; Blue Star Ferries' home page. Not opened: the Bari port authority site (blocked by a verification page), Bari airport's site (access refused), and Blue Star's and Ventouris's own Bari route pages. No prices are quoted. Check every detail with the operator before you book.
