Busan's international passenger terminal is the departure point for ferries to Japan: fast boats to Tsushima, an overnight service to Fukuoka and Shimonoseki, and a longer sailing to Osaka. The Busan Port Authority's terminal page lists the operators, the vessels and a journey time for each route. Each card gives the figures as that page states them and says when we last checked.

How it works

Ferries

Busan Hitakatsu (Tsushima), and Izuhara via Hitakatsu

Operators: Panstar Tsushima Link, Star Line (Nova), DAE-A Express Shipping (Seaflower)

Journey time: To Hitakatsu: 1 hour 10 minutes on Panstar Tsushima Link, 1 hour 20 minutes on Seaflower and 1 hour 40 minutes on Nova. To Izuhara the page lists 2 hours 10 minutes on some days and 2 hours 20 minutes on others.

When it runs: Panstar and Star Line are listed as daily, Seaflower on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the Izuhara sailings on two days a week each. The page marks several times as fluctuating.

The page does not name the operator on the Izuhara rows.

Busan Fukuoka

Operators: Korea Ferry (New Camellia)

Journey time: The page gives two figures, 6 hours and 9 hours, without saying clearly which direction each belongs to; confirm with the operator.

When it runs: Listed as daily, with times of 18:30 and 22:30 given for the two directions.

The page lists Fukuoka, not Hakata.
