Sanur, on Bali's south-east coast, is a departure point for small fast passenger boats to the islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan and on to the Gili Islands off Lombok. These are small open-sea boats, not car ferries, and many operators share the routes. Each card gives the figures as the sources state them and says when we last checked.

How it works

Ferries

Sanur Nusa Penida (Banjar Nyuh and other landings)

Operators: Ray Fish Fast Cruise, Golden Queen Fast Ferry, and others

Journey time: Between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on the port and company; crossings to Banjar Nyuh and Maruti Port are the fastest, at about 30 minutes.

When it runs: The route page says it is active all year round and lists over 10 crossings a day, with some operators running only a few days a week. AsiaFerries lists morning departures from Sanur at 08:00, 08:15, 08:45 and 09:00 and afternoon returns between 16:00 and 17:15.

These are booking-site pages, not the operators' own pages, and the booking site says its data is based on last year's timetables.

Sanur Nusa Lembongan (Telatak, east side)

Operators: Rocky Fast Cruise

Journey time: Approximately 35 to 45 minutes, depending on conditions, as the operator states.

When it runs: The operator lists four departures from Sanur: 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 17:00.

The boat uses the operator's private harbour at Telatak, near the Yellow Bridge, not Jungut Batu.

Sanur Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno

Operators: Wijaya Buyuk Fast Ferry, Semaya Darmajaya Fast Ferry, Wahana Virendra, Starfish Fastcruise

Journey time: Normally 2 hours to 4 hours 15 minutes, as the booking site states; the shortest listed trips are about 2 to 3 hours depending on the destination and operator.

When it runs: Sanur to Gili sailings are listed as daily, available January to December. Gili Meno is listed for only two of the operators, and the booking site says its monthly data is based on last year.
