Palma is a real city, not just a beach stop: the cathedral rises beside the old town, and the harbor is close enough to make the day simple. Beach and caves are optional add-ons, not the core. See the Palma place page and the Western Med route.
Getting ashore
Ships dock on the west side of the harbor, 4-6 km from the cathedral; shuttle or taxi costs €10-15 and takes 15 minutes. Some smaller ships dock nearer the marina. The waterfront promenade is flat and scenic.
What to do in 6-10 hours
Anchor on the old town: La Seu cathedral (€8-10), Almudaina Palace, the Arab Baths and the lanes around Passeig des Born. Add the Sóller vintage train (€25-35 return) or Bellver Castle for the hill view. A beach hour at Cala Major is a short taxi ride if time allows.
Walking level
The old town is mostly flat with some slopes toward Bellver; cobbles in the lanes. The cathedral and palace involve stairs. The promenade is smooth and accessible. Good for limited mobility if you stay in town.
Excursion or independent
Independent for the city and Sóller train. Use a ship tour only for the far side of the island (Drach Caves, mountain villages) where distances are long. The full trade-off is in ship excursion or independent.
