Getting ashore
Ships dock at Prince George Wharf, and the renovated terminal exits straight onto Woodes Rogers Walk - downtown starts at the gate. No tenders. Bay Street, the Straw Market and Junkanoo Beach are all on foot; Paradise Island (Atlantis) is a 10-15 minute taxi or water taxi.
What to do in 6-10 hours
The free self-guided loop covers the best of town: the Straw Market, Parliament Square, the Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle (small fee), and the pastel government buildings - two to three hours at an easy pace. Junkanoo Beach, a 15-minute walk west, is the free swim option. The splurge is Atlantis on Paradise Island: day passes for the water park run $130-190 per person. Boat days - Blue Lagoon Island, Pearl Island - run $60-120 including the ferry. Rum distillery and food tours fill a rainy afternoon for $50-80.
Walking level
Downtown is flat for the first several blocks. The Queen's Staircase means 66 steps plus a hill walk to reach it - the only real climb, and skippable. Junkanoo Beach is flat. Paradise Island adds considerable walking inside the resort. Heat and humidity are the main limiters; the downtown loop is best done early.
Excursion or independent
Downtown and Junkanoo Beach are fully independent - everything is walkable or a cheap taxi, and ship "city tours" add little. Atlantis day passes can be bought directly at similar prices, but the ship's version simplifies transport. Boat trips to the outer islands are worth booking ahead either way.
