Kos Three-Island Cruise: What to Ask Before Booking

A full day afloat with swim stops suits some people and not others. The listing alone will not tell you which you are.

The three-island cruise is one of the classic boat days from Kos: Kalymnos, Pserimos and the small island of Plati in one outing. It can be a relaxed day on the water or a long one with little shade and a ladder into the sea. This guide sets out what the operator's own pages say, what they do not, and the questions that fill the gap.

1. The format, without a fixed route

S Tours, a licensed excursion agency with offices in Kos and Rhodes, lists two versions on the pages we read on 26 October 2026. On '3 Island Cruise: Kalymnos, Plati, Pserimos' you are picked up from your accommodation and taken to Kos harbour, where the boat departs at 10am; the route takes in Kalymnos, Pserimos and Plati, and the page says the order of the islands is at each captain's discretion. You are returned to your accommodation, but no return time is given. The operator's index lists the trip at approximately 8 hours.

The '3 Island Cruise (North)' page describes a sponge factory visit on Kalymnos, free time and lunch in Pothia, Kalymnos's main town, snorkelling and swimming at Plati, which it calls a small uninhabited island, and a swim at Pserimos, a fishing village with a long golden beach. It names a professional guide. Neither page names the boat.

2. Boarding and moving around the boat

Neither three-island page says how you board, whether there is a gangway or steps, or how the boat ties up at each island. The same operator's Nisyros island-hop page states that guests must board and disembark without assistance, which is a reason to ask whether that applies here too. Ferryhopper, writing about ferries generally, says facilities differ from vessel to vessel and should be checked for each one; the same is true of excursion boats.

3. Swimming is optional, the day is not

On the first listing, Pserimos is a chance to swim from the beach, while at Plati the page invites you to 'jump off the boat to cool down'. It gives no detail about a ladder or how you climb back on board. If you do not plan to swim, the stops in Pothia and on Pserimos still offer time ashore, but you will be on board while others swim at Plati. Ask how long the Plati stop lasts and whether there is shade on deck during it.

4. Meals, shade and toilets

The first listing contradicts itself: its overview says 'Lunch in a Taverna in Kalymnos', while its description says the day includes a barbecue on the boat. It adds that refreshments can be bought on board. The North version lists lunch in a taverna in Kalymnos and tells you to bring money for drinks. Neither page mentions shade, a covered deck or toilets on board.

Practical demands to confirm. About 8 hours out, with a 10am departure from Kos harbour on the version that states a time. The operator's packing list: swimwear, hats and sunblock, plus comfortable footwear, towels, a camera, sunglasses and money for drinks on the North version. Ask which lunch applies, whether there is a toilet on board, how much of the deck is shaded, and whether there is seating out of the sun all day.

5. Pickup, weather and the return

Both versions start at your accommodation and say cancellations are accepted up to 48 hours before the excursion departs. Neither page gives a weather policy. The operator's 'Terms of Use' page is a privacy and cookie notice, not booking terms, so ask in writing what happens if the sea is too rough: a refund, another date, or a changed route.

These trips are built around hotel pick-ups and a full day afloat. If you are on a cruise ship calling at Kos, ask whether the company picks up at the cruise port at all, and compare an 8-hour day with your time ashore before considering it. Our all-aboard worksheet helps you do the sums.

6. A shorter land day instead

The same operator also lists day trips to Nisyros, its volcanic neighbour. For scheduled boats rather than tours, see the Kos ferries page, and for reading any tour listing, decoding walking, steps and standing.
