Grand Cayman is the Caribbean's tender port: ships anchor off George Town and small boats ferry you ashore, which eats 20-40 minutes of the day in each direction on busy mornings. Plan around the tender, then choose between the beach and the stingrays. See Grand Cayman's place page and the Western Caribbean route.
Getting ashore
Tenders land you in the center of George Town, right on the waterfront shopping strip. The tender queue is longest in the first 90 minutes after arrival - either go early or wait until the rush clears. Seven Mile Beach is a 10-15 minute ride north by taxi ($5-8 per person) or the public minibus ($3).
What to do in 6-10 hours
The signature is Stingray City: boat trips to the shallow sandbar where southern stingrays gather run $60-100 per person for three hours, and it genuinely delivers. The alternative anchor is Seven Mile Beach - free, calm, with public access points and beach bars. In George Town itself: the National Museum (small fee), the craft market and duty-free shopping. The Cayman Turtle Centre runs about $45 entry, combinable with a beach stop.
Walking level
George Town is flat and small. Seven Mile Beach is flat sand - soft but manageable, with paved access at public entries. The tender itself involves a step down and a short gap onto a small boat; crew assist, but it is the one moment of the day that needs steady footing. Everything else is easy.
Excursion or independent
Seven Mile Beach and George Town are fully independent - taxis and minibuses are cheap and constant. Stingray City is the case for a booked tour (ship or reputable operator) since you need a boat; independent operators at the dock sell the same trips for $20-30 less, with the usual caveat about timing. The full trade-off is in ship excursion or independent.
What it costs
Beach access and George Town wandering: free. Taxi to Seven Mile Beach $5-8 per person, minibus $3. Stingray City $60-100. Turtle Centre about $45. A beach day runs $20-40 per person; a Stingray City day $80-140.
