Boats from Venice to Murano, Burano, the Lido and Croatia
Which public boats and ferries leave Venice for Murano, Burano, Torcello, the Lido and Croatia: operators, journey times as the sources state them, and when we last checked.
Venice is a lagoon city, so most trips are by boat. The public vaporetto network run by ACTV covers the Grand Canal, the Lido and the northern islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello, Alilaguna runs boats between the airport and the city, and Venezia Lines sails across the Adriatic to Croatia in season. Each card gives the figures as the source states them and says when we last checked.
How it works
Line 1 stops at every landing stage on the Grand Canal, so it is the slow way down the canal and a way to see it from the water. The official tourism page we read gives about 65 minutes end to end.
Line 12 to the northern islands runs from Fondamente Nove. The page we read says departures run every 20 to 30 minutes in the busy season and as little as every 30 to 60 minutes in winter, and that the Torcello stop is on request only for some early departures.
Alilaguna's Blue Line connects Marco Polo Airport with Murano, the Lido and several stops in the city centre including San Marco. Its page lists the stops but not a journey time, so check its downloadable timetable.
The Croatia service is seasonal, from April to October according to the operator, and its page gives no sailing frequency, so confirm dates with the operator before you plan around it.
A ticket is not a guaranteed seat and sailings can change with the weather.
Ferries
Piazzale Roma → Lido (Santa Maria Elisabetta) via the Grand Canal
Operators: ACTV (vaporetto line 1)
Journey time: About 65 minutes end to end on the daytime timetable, in either direction; Piazzale Roma to San Marco Vallaresso takes 44 minutes.
When it runs: The page says the line runs every 12 minutes for most of the day, thinning to about every 20 minutes early and late. It quotes a timetable in force from 30 May 2026 and warns that sheets are reissued seasonally.
The line calls at all 21 landing stages on the Grand Canal.
Journey time: Fondamente Nove to Murano takes 10 to 15 minutes; to Burano 45 minutes and to Torcello 70 minutes, as the page we read states.
When it runs: Departures every 20 to 30 minutes in the busy season and every 30 to 60 minutes in winter, roughly 4:00 to 22:30, per the page.
The timetable on that page is headed "Line 13" although the text describes line 12, so confirm the current schedule with ACTV before you travel. The Torcello stop is on request only for some early departures.
Timetables and journey times change by season and operator, and a ticket is not a guaranteed seat. Every card says when we last checked and links the page we read; confirm on the operator's own page before you plan around a departure. We list operators' own pages and do not earn commission on these links.
