Malta's ferries cross to Gozo from more than one place and run on to Sicily. Gozo Channel's car-and-passenger ferries cross from Ċirkewwa, Gozo Highspeed's fast catamaran runs from Valletta, and Virtu Ferries sails between Valletta and Pozzallo. The hub covers the whole island of Malta, not just Valletta. Each card gives the figures as the sources state them and says when we last checked.
How it works
Departure ports differ: Gozo Channel leaves from Ċirkewwa on the north-west tip of Malta, while Gozo Highspeed leaves from Valletta. The booking site also lists seasonal Gozo Highspeed departures from Sliema and Buġibba, and says the route table and the article text disagree about the season, so confirm before you plan on them.
Gozo Channel's schedule page lists a ferry schedule valid from 19 May 2025 to 8 November 2026; the timetable itself is an image, so check the departure times on the operator's page.
Valletta Ferry Services runs the harbour ferries between Valletta and Sliema and between Valletta and the Three Cities, with different winter and summer hours. Its page does not state a crossing time, so those routes have no card here.
The ferry to Sicily crosses to Pozzallo in Italy. We have not checked entry rules, so this page does not state any.
A ticket is not a guaranteed seat and sailings can change with the weather.
Ferries
Ċirkewwa (Malta) → Mġarr (Gozo)
Operators: Gozo Channel
Journey time: Approximately 25 minutes, as the operator states.
When it runs: The page lists the service as daily and shows a current schedule valid from 19 May 2025 to 8 November 2026. The timetable on the page is an image.
Journey time: About 1 hour 45 minutes, as the booking site states.
When it runs: The page says you can travel all year round, usually with 2 to 3 daily crossings, with the monthly table showing fewer days a week in some mid-year months.
Entry rules for crossing to Italy were not checked.
Journey time: About 1 hour 15 minutes from Sliema and about 30 minutes from Buġibba, as the booking site states.
When it runs: Seasonal: the article text says May to October, but the route table lists January to December, so the page contradicts itself. Confirm with the operator before you plan on it.
Timetables and journey times change by season and operator, and a ticket is not a guaranteed seat. Every card says when we last checked and links the page we read; confirm on the operator's own page before you plan around a departure. We list operators' own pages and do not earn commission on these links.
