From Bergen, express boats run up the Sognefjord to Flåm and down the Hardangerfjord to Rosendal, and two coastal-voyage companies, Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages, sail north to Kirkenes. Each card gives the figures as the operators and the Bergen tourist board state them and says when we last checked.

How it works

Ferries

Bergen (Strandkaiterminalen) Flåm, via Balestrand on the Sognefjord

Operators: Norled

Journey time: Norled says "5.5 hours one way". The visitBergen listing for the same cruise gives "Duration : 5 hours and 25 minutes. (one way)", with Bergen 8:00 to Flåm 13:25 and Flåm 15:30 to Bergen 20:45.

When it runs: Norled says "Daily from Bergen at 08:00 /From Flåm at 15:30 April - October" and "From April 1 to October 31, there are daily departures on the express boat between Bergen, Balestrand and Flåm" (read 2026-10-30).

Norled says the boat stops at places including Balestrand, Vik, Noreide, Leikanger and Aurland, and that a round trip must be selected when booking if you want one.

Bergen (Strandkaiterminalen) Rosendal, on the Hardangerfjord

Operators: Rødne (The Hardangerfjord Express, Skyss route 2075)

Journey time: visitBergen says "The cruise takes about two hours one way" and lists Bergen 08:50 to 10:45 and Rosendal 14:25 to 16:20.

When it runs: visitBergen lists, for 1 Oct 2026 to 30 Dec 2026, Monday to Friday departures only (Saturday and Sunday "Closed"), and says "The tour is available all year" (read 2026-10-30). Its page also says "For public holidays, there will only be Sunday departures. December 26 and 31. No departures on December 24 and 25." The Skyss timetable PDF for route 2075 shows separate winter (1/1-30/4 and 1/10-31/12) and summer (1/5-30/9) columns.

visitBergen says the round-trip ticket is only valid for the return on the same day and that you can spend 3 1/2 hours in Rosendal. visitBergen names the tour operator as Rødne.

Bergen Kirkenes (34 ports, Norwegian coast)

Operators: Hurtigruten

Journey time: Hurtigruten says you can do "the northbound voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes over seven days at one time and then the six-day southward voyage" separately, and that the round trip is "12 days and 2,500 nautical miles".

When it runs: Hurtigruten's Coastal Express listing says "Regular departures" (read 2026-10-30) and says "We dock in villages and towns for 10 to 45 minutes and in cities for a few hours." The page does not give a departure weekday or a first and last date.

Hurtigruten says "in each direction, your ship stops at 34 coastal communities" and that port-to-port bookings are offered; for journeys longer than 23 hours it says a cabin is mandatory.
